THREE-PHASE ENGINE CONNECTION

The connection of electric motors is also known as “closing”. Three-phase motors can have six or twelve terminals, each pair

of terminals pertaining to a coil. The six-terminal motor coils can be triangulated to operate at 220V or star to operate at 380V or to start at 220V. The twelve-terminal motor coils can be connected in several different ways, that is, in star (Y) and triangle connections. Each coil of the three-phase motor must receive 220V in normal operation, unless it is a special motor for high voltage. Uses Triangle connection for lowest voltage and Star connection for highest voltage.

The voltage with which the motor can be fed depends on the way
